Back to the future
If I'm going to hell for one of my pairings, this is the one. I'm not sure what it is
about a romantic Marty/Doc relationship that makes people convulse with horror. Is 
it the age difference? Is is the fact that we're messing around
with a staple of modern pop culture? Or is it just that no one
in this country can imagine anyone over the age of sixty having
sex? Over two decades after its original theatrical release, I
found myself watching the first movie and thinking to myself, 'If
I paired those two up, it would be the ultimate father-son complex.
And they're not even related!!' My dirty mind took it from there.
Although, on the surface, this couple has a lot of the superficial
thrills that characterize my favorite pairings, those aren't the
real reason I love the couple so much. These two fucked-up
individuals, Marty with his chronically low self-esteem and anger management problem,
and The Doc with his
well-concealed lonliness and life as a reclusive social pariah, could
make for a truly
complicated, complex and real kind of romantic reltionship. These
nuances are what also makes them notoriously hard to write.
